Marco: Well, basically it's a place where I can write, which I do anyway, and other people can see it and hopefully be entertained.
Marco: ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?
Marco: Excuse me?
Marco: Oh, sorry. Gladiator...fantastic. You kind of set me up there.
Marco: Right... that's a good movie. So what I do is try to mix up light and heavy pieces. song lyrics, lists, etc.
Marco: That one about rochambeau was hilarious! Haha! You should do more stuff like that.
Marco: Glad you liked it, but I think writing comedic pieces is probably the hardest thing for me to do. You can't always trust that the comedy will translate as just words on a page, they have to come alive in the reader's mind.
Marco: uh huh.
Marco: Being in front of a live audience you have other tools at your disposal to get laughs.
Marco: uh huh.
Marco: First, there is body language, which can act as an emphasis or exclamation point.
Marco: Fascinating
Marco: When you take using body language to the extreme it is called physical comedy, which is something that Chris Farley did very well.
Marco: La da di da de da.
Marco: Second, in front of an audience you can react, whereas a comedic writer you have to anticipate an audience response. You have to trust that what you wrote didn't just sound funny in your head.
Marco: Speaking of that, I don't understand the title to your blog, everything I say is so much better in real life.
Marco: Hmmm, is that so? Anyway, what I was trying to say is that I really have to be in the right mood or have the perfect idea to write comedy. However, I can write about heartbreak at any time.
Marco: Uh oh. You're not gonna start crying are you?
Marco: No. I was just saying...
Marco: Good, cuz I will slap you.
